Week 73: Knowing God - His Peace

Isaiah 54:9-10

9 “For this is like the waters of Noah to Me;
For as I have sworn
That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth,
So have I sworn
That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.

10 For the mountains shall depart
And the hills be removed,
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,”
Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.

Isaiah 54 - The Covenant of Peace based on the finished work done on the cross. God has sworn that He will never be angry again. That is why we can never find a scripture in the New Testament that God is angry with the believer. At the cross, our Lord, Jesus has exhausted all of God's anger righteously on our behalf. Amen!

Today, we enjoy no condemnation in Christ because Christ was condemned in our place. We are righteous in this position not because God's standard has lowered or God has gone soft on morality. No! God is still God, His standard is perfect. The only reason why we have no condemnation is because Christ bored our condemnation at the cross. Our sins have been condemned in the body of Jesus Christ. God is faithful and just to what His Son did, and that is not to condemn us.

Today, God is on our side and He did it righteously. And with that finished work, God, even though He does not need to swear ( His Word alone is enough!), He sworn He will never be angry with us. Even when mountains departed and hills removed, His Covenant of Peace shall NOT be removed!

The word "peace" in Hebrew is the word "shalom". In Israel, "shalom" is used to both greet people and to bid them farewell. However, this word means much more than just "peace, hello or goodbye". Shalom is more then just simply peace; it is a complete peace. It is a feeling of contentment, completeness, wholeness, well being and harmony.

According to Strong's Concordance 7965 Shalom means completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord. Shalom comes from the root verb shalom meaning to be complete, perfect and full. In modern Hebrew, the obviously related word Shelem means to pay for, and Shulam means to be fully paid.

Of course, there is only one way to find TRUE shalom - and that is through the payment at the cross. The true peace can only be found when payment has been made.

John 20:19-20

"....the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. "

After His resurrection, the first word Jesus spoke to His disciples was "Peace" or "Shalom" in Hebrew and then He showed them His nailed print on His hands and the pierce  on His side. His peace given to us is based on His payment at the cross! Amen!

The world will search for fulfillment, happiness and contentment in material possessions, money, entertainment and all that they can pursue from outside. But those things do nothing to fill "that little hole in our soul" that only GOD can fill! Those things only serve to distract and prevent us from finding true peace...the shalom that can only come from Him who came and made payment for us all at the cross! Amen! Hallelujah!

John 14:27

27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Jesus came to give us His peace. The peace He give is not of the world. The kind of peace the world offer is temporal. It stops when the music stop or when the candle burnt out and all that is left is emptiness. That is why Jesus said "My peace". He identified the difference between His peace and the world kind of peace by saying "My".

In the world,of chaos, Jesus can speak peace to the situation. In the story of Jesus on the boat together with his disciples. It was a boisterous storm then and yet Jesus was sleeping! His peace is indeed different from the world! His disciples were affected by the storm. They were fearful; they had no peace. They woke Jesus up. Jesus arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” (Mark 4:39) And all the waves and sea obeyed Him, the Bible says there was a mega calm. And He turned around and rebuked the storm in His disciples hearts, He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:40)

The reason why Jesus could change the outside is because He was first peaceful inside. Likewise, when we have His peace inside, we can change our circumstances  outside. This is the kind of peace He came to give us, not of the world, yet it can change our health, change our finances, change our circumstances! Amen!

The devils cannot managed a peaceful Christian. The Bible says the devil goes about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.(1 Peter 5:8) The devil cannot devour anyone because he is seeking(searching) whom he may devour. The devil's modus operandi is to first agitate our hearts or trouble our hearts. The way he does it is by some circumstances, some reports or some symptoms.

The moment our hearts is troubled, only then he can instill fear into our hearts. He cannot work apart from our restlessness and unrest. That's why the verse is preceded by this verse "casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."(1 Peter 5:7)  God want us to cast our care upon Him, because He know that the devil is out there seeking whom he may devour. As long as we cast our cares on God, the devil cannot devour us. Why? Because we own His peace, our hearts are not troubled and the devil cannot manage a peaceful Christian! Amen!

In the story of the woman with the issue of blood, after she was healed by touching the helm of Jesus's garment. Jesus said this to her "Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague." (Mark 5:34)

At one glance, this verse seem normal and the remarks seem like a passing remarks. Jesus mentioned "whole" twice in this verse. He seem to be repeating Himself. However, when we look into the Greek, they are actually different meaning.

The first "whole" is the Greek word "sozo" which means "heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole." The second "whole" is the Greek word "hugies" which means "healthy, i.e. well (in body)."

Also, when the verse says "go in peace", the word "in" in Greek is actually "into". In Mark 5:12, Jesus cast out the demon Legion and the devils pleaded to flee into the swine "And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them." That word "into" is the same Greek word used for the word "in" in "go in peace."

Now, when we piece these meaning together on the verse Mark 5:12, it look like this:

Daughter, thy faith hath made thee "heal or save"; go "into" peace, and be "healthy or sound in body" of thy plague

Hallelujah! It is one thing to have divine healing and it is another thing to have divine health. Amen! Here, Jesus said the woman faith had healed her and He told her to go into peace and be healthy! The key to be healthy is to go into His peace, His shalom! Hallelujah!

The moment Jesus shouted "Finished!", we are under the covenant of God's peace. In this covenant, God sworn He will never be angry with us anymore. He is now on our side! As long as we remain in His peace, we can sleep peacefully even when storm comes. As long as we keep our heart from being troubled, the devil cannot devour us. And when we go into His peace, we cannot help it but to be under His blessing of divine health. Amen! Hallelujah!
